A BSI EN3 certified CO2 fire extinguisher is a product that meets the rigorous standards set forth by the British Standards Institution (BSI) under the EN3 certification. This certification ensures that the CO2 fire extinguisher has been manufactured according to specific guidelines regarding construction, performance, and testing procedures. CO2 fire extinguishers are particularly effective for combating fires involving electrical equipment and flammable liquids by displacing oxygen and suppressing the fire. The BSI EN3 certification process involves comprehensive testing to verify the extinguisher's reliability and effectiveness in real-world fire scenarios. Choosing a BSI EN3 certified CO2 fire extinguisher provides assurance of its quality and safety, making it a reliable choice for fire safety in environments where such hazards are present.
Q: What types of fires are CO2 fire extinguishers primarily suitable for?
A: CO2 fire extinguishers are suitable for Class A fires on some solid surfaces (such as small fires on paper and wood), Class B fires on liquids (such as gasoline, kerosene, and diesel), Class C fires on gases (such as natural gas and coal gas), and Class E fires on electrical equipment (such as electrical appliances and instruments).
Q: How do CO2 fire extinguishers extinguish fires?
A: There are two main principles: First, CO2 rapidly vaporizes after being ejected, lowering the temperature of the burning area to below the ignition point of the combustibles. Second, CO2 gas is denser than air and coats the surface of the combustible, isolating it from oxygen and preventing further combustion. This physical method of fire extinguishing leaves no residue and is more friendly to delicate equipment.
